This summer, we’re excited to introduce two standout members of the Elev8 team: Koyuki and Masahiro. Though they both grew up in Japan, and even went to the same high school! Their journeys have taken them far beyond the traditional classroom. Today, they’re bringing their international mindsets, positive energy, and love for working with kids to Elev8.

From Local Roots to Global Perspectives
Koyuki and Masahiro know the Japanese education system inside and out, but what makes them special is how they’ve grown beyond it. Their shared background helps them connect with students navigating both Japanese and international cultures, while their personal journeys give them a fresh, open-minded approach to teaching and mentoring.
Koyuki: From English Beginner to Global Learner
Koyuki spent over a year studying abroad in Dunedin, a seaside town on New Zealand’s South Island. There, she fell in love with learning English, not through textbooks, but through chats with friends, bubble tea runs, and ice cream at the beach.
Now studying international history and geography at Waseda University, she’s passionate about helping students experience the joy and freedom of learning beyond the pressure of tests and memorisation.

“I went to local Japanese schools and started with zero English. But through study abroad and lots of practice, I fell in love with English and foreign cultures. I want to help others feel that too.”
As someone who once attended summer camps herself, Koyuki understands how powerful these environments can be, not just for learning, but for building confidence, independence, and lifelong memories.
“Camp made me feel free. I could try new things, speak up, and be myself. I want kids at Elev8 to feel that too.”
Masahiro: The Math Mentor with an International Twist

Masahiro spent 7 years of his childhood in the U.S. before returning to Japan, where he completed high school and now studies economics at university. He blends both worlds naturally, bringing the structure and focus of the Japanese system, and the openness and creativity of his time abroad. At Elev8, he teaches maths, supports English activities, and brings tons of energy to sports, excursions, and games.
Masahiro knows first-hand how impactful camps can be, especially for students who might be quiet or unsure in the classroom. His goal is to help each child feel seen, supported, and excited to learn.
“Growing up in Japan, I realised how rare camps like Elev8 are, places where kids can learn good life skills and grow in confidence. I loved joining English camps when I was younger, and now I’m on the other side helping teach them!”
Learning From Experience
Koyuki and Masahiro aren’t just teachers, they’re former campers, bilinguals, and role models. They’ve experienced the pressure of the Japanese system, but also the freedom and growth that comes from stepping outside it. That makes them especially great at connecting with students from all backgrounds, whether they’re bilingual, international, or just curious to try something new.
Come Meet Koyuki & Masahiro This Summer at Elev8
At Elev8, we believe great teachers are those who walk alongside students, not just above them. Koyuki and Masahiro have been where your child is now, and they’re here to help guide, encourage, and inspire the next generation, through learning, laughter, and a whole lot of fun!!
