Meet Nick: Elev8’s Education - Manager Bringing Energy, Empathy, and Experience to Camp

Updated: Jun 4

We’re excited to introduce the a key member of the Elev8 leadership team — Nick Stevens, our Education Manager! With a wealth of experience, a passion for helping kids thrive, and a teaching philosophy grounded in empathy and curiosity, Nick is already making a big impact as we prepare for an exciting summer ahead.

From Durham to Tokyo: An Educator’s Journey

Nick’s journey into education started long before university, it’s in his blood. Raised in a teaching family, he grew up attending the private school his own family ran.

After earning his History degree from Durham University, Nick began teaching at a UK secondary school before moving to Japan, where he expanded his skill set across international schools, preschools, and summer camps. His experience spans ages 2 to 18, covering subjects from programming and maths to English and humanities, and always with the same thoughtful, student-first approach.

But what truly sets Nick apart isn’t just his academic background, it’s his approach. For Nick, education is not about perfection. It’s about progress.

“I’ve always believed that learning should feel exciting, not intimidating,” says Nick. “Mistakes aren’t failures! They’re the building blocks needed for understanding.”

A Growth Mindset in Action

Nick’s classroom philosophy is grounded in the growth mindset. He believes learning should never feel intimidating, and that the best learning happens through curiosity, trial and error, and shared discovery.

He’s also no stranger to curriculum design. Over the past several years, Nick has worked on curriculum development both in schools and as part of school holiday programmes. He knows what works, and what kids actually enjoy.

What Will Nick Be Doing at Elev8?

As Education Manager, Nick plays a dual role. Behind the scenes, he’s leading curriculum development. He works closely with the teaching team to ensure each lesson is age-appropriate, engaging, and full of hands-on exploration.

But you’ll also find Nick full of energy and right in the heart of camp, leading lessons, solving problems with students, and celebrating those “aha” moments in real time.

“Curriculum design only works if you stay connected to the kids. I love being in the classroom. It reminds me why we do all of this.”

Why Kids (and Parents) Love Him

Nick is not only knowledgeable, but warm, calm, and encouraging. He has a knack for making even the most nervous student feel safe to speak up, and that’s where real growth begins. Parents often describe him as “genuinely passionate,” “patient,” and “inspiring,” and it’s easy to see why: Nick treats every student as an individual, worthy of respect and belief.

Looking Ahead

With summer just around the corner, Nick is hard at work finalising schedules, training instructors, and preparing a camp season packed with creativity, challenge, and community. He’s also laying the groundwork for future Elev8 initiatives, ensuring that what we teach today prepares kids for the world of tomorrow.
